Fans of The Masked Singer are convinced they know which celebrity is behind the Mushroom ensemble and believe it’s no other than Father Ted star, Pauline McLynn.
Since the new series kicked off on ITV, fans have continued to share their speculations regarding certain characters online and have come up with theories for why they believe Mushroom could be Pauline.
Mushroom first hit the stage on New Year’s Day and impressed the celebrity panellists and viewers at home with their incredible singing talent and captivating performance.
But fans online are certain they’ve sussed the elaborate personality out and headed straight to Twitter to share their thoughts.
One fan wrote: “Mushroom is Pauline Mcglynn from Father Ted!”
Another viewer penned: “Mushroom = Pauline McLynne.”
A third wrote: “Just catching up on @MaskedSingerUK. Mushroom- Pauline McLynn. If it is, nice belt love!”
While a fourth added: “Just got watched in our house. Early predictions with confidence levels. Mushroom – Pauline McLynn (Mrs Doyle from Father Ted) – 50%.”
On last week’s episode, Mushroom took to the stage to sing There Are Worse Things I Could Do from the classic 70s musical Grease, but the judges were still perplexed with who the celeb could be.
While speaking to host Joel Dermott, Mushroom gave the audience a few cryptic clues, saying they needed to “get up earlier and dig deeper if they want to catch me out” and that they’ve been “lucky to be able to leave my forest and plant myself in lots of exciting places far from home.”
A confused Rita Ora tried her best to guess their identity and suggested The Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes, meanwhile Davina McCall guessed Loose Women icon Jane McDonald.
Mushroom has certainly caused confusion since they’ve taken to the stage, as they’ve admitted to using a mix of accents including Yorkshire and Irish.
Mushroom said they “can take many forms” and “like to start new things”.
During their VT, two pints of milk were shown as well as the letter W, which was hidden in a bush.
Mushroom also added they have been able to “plant myself in the woods of exciting places, far from home”.
But viewers will have to wait and see if they spot any more clues from Mushroom whne they appear on the next episode.
The Masked Singer UK continues Saturday at 7pm
