Kirstie Allsopp has sang Amanda Holden’s praises on Twitter after the star defended her on Britain’s Got Talent after a comedian contestant joked about her relying on a “trust fund”.
Suzi Wild took to the talent show’s stage and did an impression of Kirsty, which insinuated her wealth comes from a “trust fund” and she “throws away diamonds”.
Afterwards Amanda claimed she “loved” the Location, Location, Location star, as she gave Suzi feedback.
And later Kirstie, 50, took to Twitter to tell how she “adores” Amanda as she dismissed the claims made in Suzi’s act.
She wrote: “I adore @AmandaHolden always have, she’s gutsy, funny and, it turns out loyal.”
She also referenced a row she had with The Times newspaper, saying: “I gather some of the silly lies printed, but then deleted, by the ST & @thetimes are perhaps being repeated by a @BGT act? I will look into this tomorrow.”
The article Kirstie referenced was published in February and claimed she was enraged by young people saying they could not afford to buy a home despite the presenter coming from a middle class background.
The host later received an apology from the paper for misquoting her about young people being able to get on the property ladder.
Despite this Suzi appeared to use the article as inspiration for her BGT routine.
As she impersonated Lorraine Kelly, Suzi said: “Oh this is a good one, right. Patronising personality of the year and – you’ve guessed it – it’s Kirstie Allsopp.”
She then imitated Kirstie as she continued, saying: “Thank you. This just goes to prove that you can get by on talent, tenacity and a trust fund.”
Suzi then appeared to hold up an imaginary award, and said: “And if you want to make this award yourself, simply find some gold from the back of your cupboard, turn it into a star shape and encrust with diamonds that would have gone in the bin.”
Suzi concluded in Lorraine’s voice: “Thank you! I don’t get her.”
Amanda’s praise of Kirstie was questioned by some BGT viewers on Twitter.
One viewer said: “Imagine going on TV and saying you love Kirstie Allsopp.”
“Imagine that!” Kirstie replied defiantly.
However some of Kirstie’s fans insisted Suzi’s jokes were not malicious.
One said: “Amanda was kind. The act was a lovely, talented impressionist. I don’t think you would be too upset.”
