Lizzie Cundy urges football bosses to protect players after Maguire bomb threat

Lizzie Cundy is no stranger when it comes to knowing the drama involved with the football business and has shared her thoughts on the recent attacks against Harry Maguire.

Harry, 29, has been subjected to abuse from online trolls in recent months after shaky performances for Manchester United.

Earlier this month, the United captain and his family were left terrified after receiving a sickening bomb threat at their Cheshire home.

Harry alerted Cheshire police about the threat at his home that he shares with fiancée Fern Hawkins and their two children, with sniffer dogs instantly sent to the scene, with no explosives believed to be at the address.

Original WAG Lizzie Cundy, 53, knows all too well how troublesome the footballing world is after marrying Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur defender, Jason Cundy.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Lizzie said: “It’s sadly becoming not so much the beautiful game anymore.

“There should be more done and the management or football clubs need to take more responsibility for the protection of the footballers and the fans.”

She went on to add: “It’s so awful that it’s got personal, but it’s just a minority of the fans that ruin the name of football.

“The majority of fans are great but this is going away a step too far and it is becoming personal, it’s totally wrong and I’m sorry but the clubs themselves, the management need to do more to protect the players.

“[They] really need to look into what sort of fans they’re having at their clubs who could even think of doing this sort of thing.”

A fan emailed Harry’s management claiming that a bomb would be detonated if he didn’t resign from his position at Manchester United within 72 hours.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary confirmed to Daily Star that no arrests had been made and enquiries are still ongoing as of April 28.

The threat arrived hours after Maguire captained Ralf Rangnick’s side in United’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool on April 19.

“He has reported this to the police who are now looking into the matter. The safety of his family is obviously Harry’s number one priority.”

Harry’s fiancée Fern was believed to be being comforted by family in her hometown of Sheffield.
