Louise Minchin pays sweet tribute as former BBC Breakfast colleague quits show

BBC Breakfast host Louise Minchin sent a sweet message to her former co-worker Dr Sian Williams on social media.

Louise, 53, urged Sian to “excel” as the TV star stepped down from her presenting role on 5 News earlier this week.

Sian, 57, announced to her fans that she would be stepping down from 5 News in the spring, leaving many followers upset.

The TV star posted: “Feels odd to dip into your timeline, but a bit of personal news. After 6+ years, I’ve decided to leave @5_News n the spring.

“I’ll continue with #MindMatters & special projects, but with my other hat on, I think I’m needed elsewhere. Thanks to all the lovely @channel5_tv viewers.”

Louise quickly rushed to share her support to her friend as she wrote: “Good luck Sian, change is a courageous thing and you as always will excel and what you do next xxx.”

Sian replied: “Thanks Lou, fellow traveller! Let’s embrace it.”

Louise wasn’t the only TV star to send kind messages to Sian, with many others getting involved.

Carolyn Quinn commented: “Sian you will be deeply missed on air but your other work is really valuable – especially now.”

5News presenter Vincent McAviney remarked: “Sorry to see you go but good luck with all the new opportunities!”

Sian rose to fame by hosting BBC Breakfast alongside Bill Turnbull but left the show back in 2012.

That is something she has in common with Louise Minchin, who left the show last year after first appearing on the show in 2001.

At the time, Louise posted on social media: “I’ve loved being part of it, but – and there is a but – I have decided that it is time that I stopped setting my alarm for 3:40 – sometimes when I’m feeling very rebellious 3:46 in the morning – and I’m going to be leaving the programme…

“It is time now to stop that alarm early in the morning, and thank you for watching all these years as well

Following her exit, Louise appeared on the 2021 series I’m A Celebrity in Wales, managing to make it to seventh place in the show, which was eventually won by Emmerdale star Danny Miller.

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC.
