ITV has said that they will “sit down and review” their popular dating show Love Island after recent events sparked controversy and public outcry against some of the contestant’s behaviour.
Channel boss Kevin Lygo has addressed the situation after the show received 5,000 Ofcom complaints regarding the contestant’s behaviour.
He said: “We continually assess a programme as it is going on because it is one of these odd ‘every night live’ sort of shows, but when the series comes to an end on Monday, we will always sit down and review what we think about it, what the reaction has been and how well it has done.”

Kevin continued: “We have to say, this year, remember, it is the best one we have had in many years and I think everyone is thoroughly enjoying it.
“To get five million people to watch a show every night at 9 o’clock is extraordinary in the modern era, so something is being done right.”
Lygo finished by explaining: “We must always look to improve and work on what we have done, but we are very happy with the way it has gone so far.”
Ofcom has released a statement and said that they are “assessing the complaints” made against Love Island “against their broadcasting rules,” but “are yet to decide whether or not to investigate”.
In the week prior, Ofcom stated that they had received over 3,000 complaints about the ITV dating show within seven days, but now that figure has risen to almost 5,000.
Throughout the series, fans have turned to Twitter and social media to voice their opinions on the behaviour of some of the show’s contestants.
One particular event that caused uproar was the Pie Challenge, during which Tasha Ghouri was “pied” in the face a number of times.

After the challenge, she was clearly upset and the islanders agreed that it had “turned personal”.
Those involved in the altercation apologised but fans have since called for stricter rules within the villa.
The Ofcom complaints come just days before the coveted Love Island final in which one lucky couple will be crowned the series winner.
They will also be given £50,000 to either split or steal.
