Love Island star understands Jacques' abrupt exit as villa 'messes with your mind'

Love Island ‘s Marcel Somerville has revealed that the ITV show can “mess with your mind” – hence why he understands why Jacques O’Neill left.

Series three star Marcel exclusively chatted to the Daily Star during a Facebook Live chat last week.

The Blazin Squad star said: “Jacques has just left for his own mental wellbeing because honestly, that place can mess with your mind.

“Because you’re in there going ‘this isn’t who I am, this isn’t how I usually act’. Mentally, you’re breaking yourself down and sometimes people do need to leave for their own good.

“I was lucky to have talked myself around and get myself into a good mindset, maybe because I was older…”

He continued to explain: “I can’t talk for producers but I do feel like if someone is bringing certain energy and vibe to the show the producers are more likely to be more like say ‘you know what, obviously you aren’t having the best time here if you do want to leave then we 100% support it’. And they kind of give them the backing to leave.

“Because I was watching the show and I thought he [Jacques] is losing his head when he was being aggressive to a lot of other contestants.

“He swore at Billy and being weird with Paige and like kicking off with Adam and all of those things.

“There are certain things that they say to you before the show like ‘We don’t like aggression in the villa’ and maybe he was hitting trigger points and they [producers] said’ Look if you don’t feel like you can’t calm down it might be best for you to leave’.

“And I think that’s potentially what has happened.

ITV show boss Mike Spencer has since shut down rumours surrounding his departure.

Speaking to Deadline, Mike said: “When you date, your emotions are naturally up and down. Finding love is not a simple thing, that’s why the show is so relatable.

“Jacques was on his own journey and he had a strong connection with Paige [Thorne] but sometimes you have to think about yourself and that’s what Jacques did.”
