Love Island alumni Jess Hayes has spoken exclusively to Daily Star reporter Carly Hacon about her time in the villa and revealed that at times they were so bored, they would smoke 40 cigarettes a day.
Speaking during a Facebook Live interview, Jess spoke candidly about her experience and spilled some behind the scenes gossip on the nation’s favourite dating show.
When asked whether they were allowed to drink more than the islanders in recent series, Jess confirmed that they weren’t, despite the fact that “people think” they were.

A major difference that sets the earlier series apart from the rest is the fact that the producers used to film the contestants smoking.
This has since stopped in an effort not to promote smoking, but some fans have called for its return after the amount of drama that used to go down.
Jess exclaimed: “They used to film us smoking, that used to be the gossip corner!”
She continued: “That was the spot, wasn’t it? Everyone would have a fag. I swear to god, we were so bored in there we must have gone through about 40 a day, each. There were people in there smoking that had never even smoked [before], there was nothing else to do apart from smoke and gossip!”
When questioned about the drinking rule, she said that there was a “two drink” limit but they were occasionally allowed a little extra.
Jess admitted: “There were a few nights when we could have a little bit more, but it was weird – after two drinks you’d feel like you were drunk! I don’t know whether it was the sun or what, but we were allowed a little bit more when the boys did a night out or something.”
She recalled one night when she’d had a little too much to drink which left her feeling a little worse for wear afterwards.
The former islander revealed: “I remember throwing up, I was really ill, I remember that. No, the alcohol [limit] was still pretty low, it was still low.”
When asked whether they had producer’s input on the islander’s conversations throughout the series, Jess admitted that there would often be a slight nudge in a particular direction.
She said: “If it was getting a bit dead, we’d be having a chat and they’d be like: ‘Can you do that chat, can you talk about this?’ Most of the time we were left to our own devices. We were allowed to do our own thing.”
