Love Island's Luca slams Joey Essex as he 'fell asleep' while working at fish market

Love Island star Luca Bish has hit out at TOWIE’s Joey Essex for “falling asleep” while working in the fish trade.

The newcomer – and former fishmonger – is due to head into the villa as part of the 2022 line-up, and has plenty of famous pals to guide him through the star-studded experience.

Luca even used to date former Islander Saffron Barker, and is close family friends with EastEnders icon Patsy Palmer.

But talking to Daily Star and other press, Luca didn’t hesitate to launch into a story about Joey Essex, who worked briefly as a fishmonger like Luca.

Luca opened up about his stories of Joey Essex

Luca joked: “Well, [Joey] says he did – he weren’t there long, trust me! I promise you there are some funny stories there.”

He added: “He was up at Billingsgate [Market] – I didn’t know him, I think he’s 10 years older than me or something. But I remember… this is a story.

“His dad asked someone to give him a job, and apparently he slept the whole night. And the next day his dad said, ‘Oh how did he get on, did he get the job?’

“I think he said to his dad that he loved it and he wanted to come back and all that, so that’s one of the stories about him!” Luca giggled.

Luca admitted that he’d tell girls on nights out that he was a “stockbroker” rather than admitting he worked with fish.

Luca also opened up on being mobbed at Pizza Express by fans wielding cameras while he was out on a date with Saffron, explaining: “We were in Pizza Express once, me and Saffron, and we had kids running up to the window taking pictures of me stuffing my face with dough-balls!”

Clearly undaunted by fame, Luca added: “I’ve always been really private, even with Saffron, even with my ex – who had like 300,000 followers – I’ve always kept mine really private.

“So followers and stuff, they really don’t mean a thing to me. If I was knocked out in a day and end up back doing fish, I was happy then and I’ll be happy again I’m sure.”

Love Island returns to ITV2 and ITVHub on June 6 at 9pm
