Meat Loaf said he wanted to die on stage in tell-all interview with Piers Morgan

Rock and Roll legend Meat Loaf had previously admitted that he wanted to die on stage after an interview with journalist and presenter Piers Morgan.

He died on Thursday at his family home, surrounded with loved ones.

Although an official cause of death has yet to be announced, unconfirmed reports suggest that he had Covid-19 at the time.

The 74-year-old rock singer, real name Michael Lee Aday, previously spoke on Piers Morgan’s CNN show about the concept of dying.

He said:“You know, I take the stage as if it’s the last thing I’m ever going to do and that’s how I perform every night. It’s probably [taught me] to slow down a little bit.”

“I go out on the stage as if it’s the last thing I’ll ever do. And that’s what I’ve always said – if I’m going out, I’m going out on stage.”

Back in 2011, the Bat Out Of Hell singer suffered a double health scare after he fainted while performing in Pittsburgh. He then collapsed less than a week later in New Jersey and was revived with oxygen.

Meat Loaf is regarded as one of the most influential figures in the Rock and Roll industry, with his theatrical performances and recognisable voice he dominated the charts in the 70s and 80s.

He became one of the most successful recording artists of all time, having sold over 100 million records and receiving accolades such as a Grammy Award and a Brit Award.

The star also dabbled in acting roles, most notably as Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Bob Paulson in Fight Club.

He continued his passion right to the end and remained ambitious in recent years. He spoke to The Mirror in January 2020 and said: “I’m not old. I’ve got songs for another record and I’m reading a script.”

Meat Loaf also announced on Facebook in November last year that he was intending to return to the studio in January to record new music.

He passed away on January 20 and it is unclear whether the music was recorded.
