Mel B 'saddened' by Queen's death as Spice Girls couldn't make Jubilee performance work

Spice Girls star Mel B has revealed her devastation after the chart-topping group were unable to perform at The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.

The event was the last time Her Majesty appeared on the famous Buckingham Palace balcony before her devastating death on September 8.

Since finding fame as one-fifth of the Spice Girls, Melanie, 47, met The Queen on several occasions and was even awarded an MBE.

But the schedules of the singers meant they were unable to reunite for Her Majesty’s Jubilee celebrations.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, the singer said: “I really wanted to perform at the Queen’s ceremony.

“She was an incredible woman and the most amazing Queen in British history.

“My greatest honour is that I was amongst the last group of people to be honoured by her with an MBE.”

The mum-of-three added: “I felt deeply saddened by her death, she feels like part of the fabric of all our lives.

“But her death has shown how important the royal family is to all of us – I wish King Charles the very best.”

Ahead of the Jubilee, the Queen’s health deteriorated which resulted in the late Monarch reducing her workload, with Counsellors of State stepping in for her.

Sadly, doctors issued a statement around midday on September 8, explaining she was under medical supervision at Balmoral Castle.

Just hours later, it was confirmed Her Majesty had passed away “peacefully” at her beloved Scottish home, aged 96.

Her Majesty will be laid to rest alongside her beloved late husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh during a private committal service at St George’s Chapel on the Windsor Estate.

Ahead of this, members of her family and various representatives and close friends will attend a Committal Service.

Following the death of The Queen, members of her family including King Charles III, Princess Anne and the new Prince of Wales, Prince William.

Anne, 72, was with the late Queen before her death and accompanied her on her final journey to Buckingham Palace from Balmoral.

In an emotional statement, the Princess Royal said: “I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys, witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting.

“We will all share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and every one who shares our sense of loss.”

She added: “We may have been reminded how much of her presence and contribution to our national identity we took for granted.

“I am also so grateful for the support and understanding offered to my dear brother Charles as he accepts the added responsibilities of The Monarch.

“To my mother, The Queen, thank you.”
