Mel C brands Harry and William 'better hosts' than King Charles after dinner snub

Mel C wasn’t afraid to take a savage swipe at King Charles just days after he ascended the throne.

The former Spice Girl, also known as Sporty Spice, revealed that Prince Harry and William made better hosts than the new King.

The Spice Girls had been invited to tea at the now-king’s Highgrove House in Gloucestershire in the 1990s – quite the honour.

The pop stars were served traditional royal grub such as cucumber sandwiches in the drawing room, but it seems one singer wasn’t quite pleased with the service.

The royal dinner went horribly wrong when one unnamed Spice Girl complained she wasn’t full enough after her meal.

Mel C told the epic royal tale on Tuesday’s One Show (September 20), where she knew she had to “explain herself” in case she got herself trouble with the monarch.

When asked if King Charles made a good host, she answered: “Well, he was a decent host, but William and Harry were better.”

The singer went on: “It would have been ’97 or ’98, and were invited to Highgrove for tea. It was a very traditional cucumber sandwiches, in the drawing room. Very formal.”

Luckily for Mel and her fellow Spice Girls, Charles’ sons William and Harry leaped to their rescue.

Mel went on: “One of the members of the band, I’m sure you can guess who, complained she wasn’t quite full, so we were taken down to the kitchens with William and Harry and they made us peanut butter on toast.”

One Show host Emma Willis gasped: “You went down there?”, to which Mel excitedly replied: “Yeah! Amazing isn’t it.”

It remains to be seen whether it was Harry or William making the peanut butter toast, or a member of the royal kitchen.

Emma also mentioned the fact that Mel and her met King Charles recently, but Emma dropped Mel in it as she said the singer was “cheeky” with him.

It wouldn’t be the first time a Spice Girl tried their luck as Geri Horner famously broke royal protocol in kissing the now-king.

It comes as the band are celebrating their 25th anniversary of their iconic Spice World album this year, and Mel C penning her new book, Who I Am: My Story.
