Pete Doherty's huge transformation after he ditched fame for rural life in France

British musician Pete Doherty was often the centre of media attention as he was known to live life in the fast lane.

Being co-frontman of the band The Libertines and later joining the Babyshambles, Pete knew how to fascinate his fans and the press as he embodied the ultimate rock and roll lifestyle.

His high-profile relationship with the late Amy Winehouse and model Kate Moss also made him the talk of the town as the media continued to follow his whereabouts.

But although at times Pete appeared to be having the time of his life, he also dabbled in heavy drug use which steered him off course.

The musician’s long-lasting drug addiction led him to receive a prison sentence and a life of rehab.

But despite his turbulent past, Pete appears to have turned his life around and is a far cry from his wild drug fuelled days.

Daily Star have taken a look at what Pete is doing now.

During his heyday, Pete became widely known for his addiction to ketamine and heroine more than his musical talent.

The star was repeatedly arrested for drug offences and offences arising from the misuse of drugs such as drink-driving, driving with a suspended licence and car theft.

In addition to this, Pete also pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine, heroin, cannabis and ketamine in the early 00’s.

But this only lead to further problems down the line with Pete attending court on numerous occasions for drug-related issues throughout the years.

Pete’s turbulent relationships with model Kate Moss and musician Amy Winehouse was also heavily documented, as reports claimed that Pete often indulged in drugs with his partners.

In October 2014, Doherty was admitted to the Hope Rehab Centre located in Thailand. The star announced plans to start a foundation with the centre to help struggling addicts at the time.

Despite his determination and the success of completing his rehab treatment, in 2017 Pete was found with heroin in his car while travelling through Italy.

Two years later, in November 2019 Pete was fined €10,000 in Paris and given a three-month suspended prison sentence for cocaine possession and affray.

When asked in an interview if he wanted to be completely clean from drugs in 2019 Pete confessed that he longed to do so.

He said: “Yes, a part of me would. Just so I can feel things. There are so many people in my life who deserve better.

“It really is a mental deficiency… I’d be a force to be reckoned with! I’d have money and self-respect and clean hands.”

Although many are aware of Pete’s previous high profile relationships, he has now settled down with his girlfriend Katia De Vidas in Nothern France.

The happy couple have been together for a number of years and live with their dog and two cats in Etretat.

Appearing completely different from his former self, the star was pictured last year sharing a kiss with his girlfriend Katia on his social media platform.

Pete and Katia hit it off after he formed the band Puta Madres. Katia plays the keyboard in the group.

Speaking to The Sun about their relationship, a close source said: “While lockdown has been tough for so many people, Pete is honestly the happiest he’s ever been.

“He used to live a fast-paced, hedonistic lifestyle. He was the epitome of rock and roll. But the relaxed pace of life suits him more.”

In a interview with The Sun last year, Pete highlighted his more relaxed life and confessed he enjoyed eating cheese and sleeping.

The musician said: “I like Comté, Comté on toast. My guilty pleasure is sleeping.”

He added: “For years and years, I would stay up for five or six days and then I would sleep for 24 hours, so now I love sleep.”
