Piers Morgan has shared a sweet throwback snap during a meeting with Queen Elizabeth II as he suggests he should be rewarded with a ‘Sir’ title.
The former Good Morning Britain presenter, 56, is all smiles as he enjoys a pleasant moment with the monarch in 2002 during a reception for the media at Windsor Castle.
The Queen, now 95, looks radiant she shoots a beaming smile at the crowd wearing a sparkly red dress, a white pearl necklace and red lipstick.
Captioning the snap, Piers said: “That moment when I suggested ‘Sir Piers’ was long overdue….”
Fans took to the comments section to offer their thoughts on his tweet.
“The queen seems pretty amused by this,” said one, while another added: “Not a chance! You’ve got to be a national treasure for that Piers.” A third added: “She’s probably still laughing”
The broadcaster recently paid a glowing tribute to the Queen as she marks 70 years on the throne.
Piers hailed Her Majesty as the “greatest of all time” and praised her leadership on her Platinum Jubilee.
He wrote on Instagram: “The (goat emoji). Congratulations to Queen Elizabeth II on becoming the first British Monarch to reign for 70 years.
“What a magnificent rock of wise, calm, strong & empathetic leadership she has been for this country through good times and bad.
“Thank you, Your Majesty.”
Piers has also praised Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, following the news that the Queen has expressed she would like her to have the title of Queen Consort when Prince Charles becomes King.
In his most recent article, Piers has explained why Camilla is “best suited” for the job, whilst once again taking the opportunity to aim jibes at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Piers claimed that the couple “endlessly whine, sue, trash their families, play the victim, and fleece their royal titles for crude commercial gain”, while Camilla has “risen above the often viciously unfair fray with a grace and dignity, and a keen understanding of royal duty, that says so much about her character”.
The Queen was recently pictured in good spirits while cutting into a cake in celebration of her milestone jubilee.
When told the cake was turned upside down for the benefit of photographers, she joked: “I don’t matter?”
The Queen also left her guests laughing as she told them “I’ll put the knife in, see if it works” before adding: “Somebody else can finish it off”.
Despite celebrating the official the 70th anniversary of her reign, Her Majesty will celebrate the milestone in June in tribute to her father, after she ascended the throne on the same day as his death.
