“He toured with me in my solo band too – he was a pleasure to spend time with. Safe travels Duffy.”
The musician played with Primal Scream up until his death but first started out in Felt in 1985.
Following this, he then stepped in to play with The Charlatans after the group’s founder Rob Collins died in 1996.
Other stars and fans of the musician also paid tribute to the musical icon on social media.
Oasis star Liam Gallagher stated: “RIP Duffy Primal Scream do you know what I mean [sic].”
One fan wrote: “Rest in power, Martin Duffy. Deepest condolences to those who knew and loved him.”
Another added: “Gutted to hear of the passing of Martin Duffy of Primal Scream. Massive loss to a most magic band. RIP Duffy.”
While a third penned: “So saddening another musically gifted artist has passed. Thoughts with his family.”
A fourth shared: “Oh god. What a tragic morning. Martin Duffy RIP. I remember when he joined Felt and seemed so young and so cool, bringing another dimension to their sound. And then being so pleased when Primal Scream gave him new opportunities to shine. Gone way too young.”
The Birmingham-born star first started his career in music in his teens, when joining Indie band Felt at just 16 years old.
He then began playing the keyboard for Primal Scream on a part-time basis before inevitably signing up full-time for the slot.
Duffy played with the iconic band for three decades and even guested on frontman Bobby Gillespie‘s 2020 album Utopian Ashes.
