Queen's visit to Emmerdale set almost ended in disaster after massive explosion

This Morning held a tribute programme in honour of the Queen and touched upon her moment of bravery whilst on the Emmerdale set.

Soap expert Sharon Marshall was welcomed to the show by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield and spoke about her numerous visits to some of the nation’s favourite soaps.

Queen Elizabeth had visited the set of EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, where she had a very close call.

Sharon admitted that things “went a bit wrong” while she toured around the set back in 2002.

Sharon said: “She went to see the actual scene of the post office being blown up and a piece of wood apparently blew a lot closer than everyone was expecting. She didn’t flinch, doesn’t move at all, she just continued with the tour.”

Holly and Phillip were stunned by the monarch’s bravery before Sharon continued to explain the situation.

She added: “Wood apparently went over the street and went quite near the Queen. She didn’t flinch and was charming.”

Queen Elizabeth loved to show her face around the soap sets and has visited Corrie twice – once for it’s 60th anniversary and another just after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sharon revealed that the cast and crew “rolled out a red carpet” for her over the show’s famous cobbled streets, of which one cobble was gifted to the Queen throughout her visit.

She also told the Coronation Street crew that it had been a “hugely dark time” but admired them for “carrying on”.

Phillip jokingly asked whether the Queen watched Corrie and Sharon admitted that she was “kept very abreast” of what’s happening.

However, the same could not be said for her thoughts on EastEnders.

During her visit to Albert Square, the Queen reportedly asked Ian Beale actor Adam Woodyatt if he was one of the staff.

Despite her hilarious mistake, Sharon claims that “Camilla is allegedly” a fan of the show, while the Queen Mother “definitely watched Emmerdale”.

Sharon said that Queen Elizabeth’s visits to soapland “brought such a lift” and left “a real piece of history”, due to the fact that she “took the time out to recognise that Britain has a love of soaps”.
