Rachel Zegler makes veiled dig at Oscars 2022 on stage after awkward invite snub

Rachel Zegler took to the stage at the 93rd Oscars ceremony to make a dig at bosses for her late invite.

The West Side Story actress was absent from the ceremony’s guest list

After the star revealed the snub on social media, the Academy quickly sent her an invitation to amend their mistake.

Fans were confused as to why she was snubbed after she opened up to a fan who asked her why she hadn’t been invited on Instagram.

Zegler wrote: “I don’t know, y’all. I have tried it all but it doesn’t seem to be happening. I will root for West Side Story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago.”

She continued on to say that she hoped a “last minute miracle would occur” so that she can celebrate “in person” with her fellow co-stars.

Rachel then thanked her fans for the “shock and outrage” because she was “disappointed too” but remained “so proud” of the movie.

Thanks to her team at Disney, for whom she is currently filming Snow White, Rachel eventually managed to bag a spot at the Oscars and shared the news on Twitter.

She said that she was “thrilled” to be attending and asked her fans what she should wear on the big night.

The ceremony was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles and the actress presented the Award for Achievement in Visual Effects, next to Euphoria actor Jacob Elordi.

He addressed the audience and said: “Growing up in Australia I had never thought that I would stand on this stage.”

Rachel added: “And I never thought that I would be here six days ago. We did it. Dreams really can come true, pretty fast, too.”

The actress previously spoke to ABC about her nerves over the role of award presenter at the Oscars.

The eager star said: “It’s my first time and I’m presenting. I feel like there’s a lot of pressure but I have practised my presenting face and I have my presenting voice, I am really ready.”

Her co-star Ariana DeBose won Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Anita in Steven Spielbergs’ remake of West Side Story.
