Strictly Come Dancing is back and that means the return of Rylan Clark with his spin off show, It Takes Two.
The 33-year-old, along with his co-host Janette Manrara, is the face of the mid-week “fanzine” programme on BBC2 at 6.30pm.
Fans have expressed their delight at seeing the former X Factor contestant back on their screens following a tough year for the presenter.
He recently released his memoirs, Ten: The Decade That Changed My Future, in which Rylan makes a number of candid confessions.
The book reveals how the breakdown of his relationship last year impacted both his physical and mental health, including revealing how he suffered two heart failures in the wake of his split from ex Dan Neal.
Rylan has rarely been out of the limelight since his reality TV emergence — and he has had a few public spats in that time with other stars.
Feud and make-up with Gary Barlow
Rylan fell out with Gary Barlow when the Take That singer was a stand-in judge on The X Factor.
Songwriter Barlow made no secret of the fact he did not rate Rylan’s vocals when sitting in for Simon Cowell as a judge on the 2012 series of the singing contest.
The pop star even stormed off set when the hopeful got put through during the first week of eliminations over his preferred act.
The pair exchanged jibes throughout the series, with Gary telling Rylan after one performance: “I’m glad you learned the trick that when you pull the mic away – we don’t hear what you’re singing.”
Rylan lashed back on Twitter, telling the then-judge: “I’d rather be ‘absolute s***’ than just stand there and sing the same old stuff every week on the spot… #boreme @GBarlowOfficial.”
He later branded the judge ‘Gary Bore-low’ and got a fake tattoo of his rival on his back for a magazine shoot.
In 2019, they announced they had buried the hatched after being pictured together a showbiz party.
Rylan tweeted the picture, saying: “After seven years… we’re good.”
Edwina Currie
The Radio 2 DJ made light of his Twitter spat with former Conservative MP Edwina Currie during the debate over Downing Street parties held during the Covid pandemic.
Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and ex-chancellor Rishi Sunak were fined in April for breaking Covid rules after gathering for the PM’s birthday in the Cabinet room in 2020.
Rylan took to Twitter to share his opinion on the matter, saying: “He’s officially broke the law. That’s it ain’t it?”
Currie, a former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! contestant, jumped to Johnson’s defence.
With the Russian invasion of Ukraine starting weeks before the fines were dished out, Currie told Rylan that President Vladimir Putin was “laughing” at Britain for getting caught up in Covid rows.
“No, it isn’t,” she responded. “Shouldn’t have happened, but it’s done now.
“In case you hadn’t noticed, this all happened two years ago. Putin is laughing at us. Get real.”
The former Supermarket Sweep presenter Rylan wasn’t letting it end there and told the MP that he made a “statement, not an opinion.”
He wrote: “I did not have @Edwina_Currie on my bingo card for this morning. Edwina, there’s a war, we’re living with Covid, there’s a lot going on publicly and personally.
“I’m aware when it was. Believe me I don’t need to ‘get real’. It’s a statement, not an opinion. You stay well, as will I.”
Posting on his Instagram story later that day, Rylan — who was also giving followers updates on a squirrel who had been visiting his garden — added: “Twitter beef with Edwina Currie at 7am.
“Not today babe. Got a squirrel to feed.”
Mystery co-star row
This Morning presenter Rylan hinted in 2019 that he had trouble with a co-star, saying some people he had worked with treated others “like s**t”.
It came three months before Amanda Holden confirmed she and Phillip Schofield were feuding over claims the veteran broadcaster had “blocked” her from being a stand-in presenter on the daytime ITV programme.
Rylan has fronted “This Morning” at different points since 2013 but when he co-hosted it with Schofield in March 2019, viewers were quick to point out their “awkward” body language.
Speaking to Closer magazine that same year, Rylan said: “People always ask me if I’m best friends with everyone I work with in telly – but no, not everyone you work with is your friend.
“What’s the point of pretending you’re mates with everyone?”
The former Celebrity Big Brother star went on: “I think I got where I have because of the way I treat everyone.
“Some of the people I work with talk to people like s**t, but I treat the runner on my TV shows exactly the same as I do the executive producers.”
Rylan ended up taking a long break from guest-presenting This Morning in December 2017.
There is no suggestion Rylan was talking about his This Morning colleagues in the interview.
