Simon Cowell's first brush with fame was alongside Hollywood star Jack Nicholson

Reality show judge Simon Cowell is known for his cutting remarks on some of the biggest shows on ITV.

He’s had a long career as a music and media mogul and launched talent shows from Pop Idol to Britain’s Got Talent and turned many young hopefuls into superstars overnight.

However, before all the glamour of the music world, Simon started out as a runner on the set of the Stanley Kubrick classic horror film The Shining in 1980.

At the time, Simon lived near Elstree studios where the film was being shot.

As well as assisting on set, one of Simon’s tasks was polishing the famous axe used by actor Jack Nicholson in the iconic “Here’s Johnny” scene.

According to half-brother Tony, Simon took pride in the job saying: “I remember him saying he used to clean Jack Nicholson’s axe between takes for the most famous scenes.

The Guardian added: “He took it very seriously and was very proud, It’s a far cry from where he is now, I think the only thing he shines these days are his teeth.”

It was recently claimed that he wants to focus on his family and take a break from work after the impact of the pandemic made him re-evaluate his work ethic.

He announced that he wants to continue working in the limelight for shows in the UK and America, but is considering the impact on his son Eric and fiancée Lauren.

Simon’s for the future were recently unveiled by The Mirror with sources claiming the media mogul wanted to edge into “semi-retirement”.

The insider went on to say: “He doesn’t want to work at that pace anymore.

“His back injury from the bike accident in 2020 and the pandemic have made him refocus his life and at 62 Simon knows he is not getting any younger.”

Simon has earned the right to be called a household name after his continuous and unwavering efforts to entertain throughout his 40-year career.
