Strictly Ellie Taylor's life – famous husband, Amanda Holden link and Strictly curse

Strictly Come Dancing star Ellie Taylor has been impressing viewers with her fancy footwork since the latest season of the show kicked off.

After performing a Quickstep in week one and the Paso Doble in week two, Ellie, 38, is heading into the third week of live shows with viewers growing more curious about the Ted Lasso star’s life outside of the show.

Performing alongside Strictly Professional partner Johannes Radebe Ellie hasn’t failed to catch the attention of the judges but the Essex born star is no stranger to on-screen success.

Here we take a look at her life before Strictly Come Dancing added a new level of fame.

Famous Husband

Ellie is happily married to well-known CNN International news reporter Phil Black, who is famed for his high profile reporting.

The Australian newsman lives in London with Ellie but has reported on huge news stories including the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and on the Russian-Georgian conflict in 2008 since he joined CNN in 2007.

Ellie married Phil back in 2018 and they welcomed their daughter, Valentina, four, in 2018.

Eliie is well used to the showbiz life having worked a series of high-profile jobs having worked as a comedian, TV personality, actor, and writer.

The 38-year-old star – who hails from Brentwood in Essex – has touted her trade on a string of high profile comedy shows including Show Me the Funny, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Fake Reaction, Mock the Week, The Mash Report and Plebs as well as presenting Snog Marry Avoid? and Live at the Apollo.

Ellie also fronts The Great Pottery Showdown and has reportedly been lined up to co-host a new Netflix quiz show with Danny Dyer.

Perhaps her most notable role was landing the part of Sassy in Apple TV’s hit US comedy series Ted Lasso, which she has appeared in since 2020.

In 2021 she added author to her list of skills when she published her first book, My Child and Other Mistakes.

As well as being a dab hand at TV work leggy brunette Ellie has hosted a variety of radio shows on Global’s Heart.

In 2017 she filled in for former Spice Girl Emma Bunton on London’s Heart Radio breakfast show, and in 2019 she substituted for none other than Amanda Holden.

Strictly Curse

Ellie hit back at Ranvir Singh as she asked about how her husband feels about her joining Strictly Come Dancing following her sketch about the dreaded TV curse.

Years before Ellie signed up to the show, the comic poked fun at the infamous Strictly curse in her sketch on her show The Mash Report.

As Ranvir welcomed her onto Lorraine, she couldn’t help but ask how her husband feels about her now taking part on the show and the possibility of falling under the TV curse.

The TV presenter told viewers at home: “We couldn’t show a clip of you on The Mash Report talking about Strictly a few years ago because it was very, very saucy.

“Can I just urge you to go on YouTube and find this clip of Ellie because it is very, very funny. But you talk about the Strictly curse, and it’s absolutely hilarious, right?

“Now you’re on Strictly a few years later… have you had this chat with your husband? Was he alright about it?”

However, Ellie seemed less than impressed that the former Strictly star had brought up her old joke, as she quickly shut down all notion of the curse on the show.

She replied with: “It’s a wild thing to think isn’t it but The Mash Report is a satirical show, you know it’s written by writers and I play a character.”
