Strictly finalist exposes ‘cliquey and childish’ co-star clashes backstage on BBC show

Strictly Come Dancing star Simon Webbe has revealed some of the “cliquey and childish” clashes that happened backstage on the BBC One dance competition.

The infamous pop star placed third on the beloved series back in 2014 after he was pipped to the post by the late Caroline Flack who stole the show with her professional dance partner Pasha Kovalev.

For many people on the show, the stars form life-long bonds with their professional partners and fellow contestants as they battle it out to impress the judges on the iconic dancefloor.

But the same can’t be said for all the stars, after the Blue singer, 43, shared some of his awkward clashes with his fellow co-stars on the reality show when the cameras stopped rolling.

During an exclusive Facebook Live chat with Daily Star, the boyband hunk opened up about the tension that took place between himself and the other contestants on the show.

Despite the fact the dad-of-two made it all the way to the live finals, he confessed that he struggled to build bonds with the cast on the show.

He explained: “There was a lot of clashes but I’m not gonna name any names because it can be very, very cliquey with celebrities”.

The singer confessed that during his time on the 14-week show, stars would often stop talking when he entered a group setting.

Simon added: “That’s one of the things I hate about being a celeb sometimes because you can walk into a room and everyone stops talking.

“I’m like, ‘Why have you stopped talking? Now you’re making me feel like you’re talking about me’.

“[They’d say] ‘No, no, no we’re not, we’re not’.”

But that hasn’t stopped the star from standing up for himself after he revealed that he would quickly air his grievances to squash any bad blood between him and his contestants.

He added: “It’s just childish, man, like grow up. I’m that guy that says that in the room and I don’t care who it is.”

Since he left the show, the star hasn’t kept in contact with his fellow contestants or even his professional dance partner Kristina Rihanoff.

He singer confessed: “I haven’t spoken to Kristina in six years. I might have bumped into her but that’s about it.

“When you’re in the bubble and you’re there every day, you go, ‘Oh, we’ll be friends forever, call me any time’.

“If it’s her birthday, I’ll send a little message and vice versa but we don’t speak on a daily basis like we used to.”

Simon teased: “We’re busy doing our thing couple of songs and touring in December for an arena tour.

“Yeah, looking forward to it – expect to see some memorabilia, some tracks from the past, we are going through the setlist at the moment.

“We’re not sure exactly what it will be but there will be a few tracks from the brand new album Heart & Soul which is out on October 28.”
