The CW star Charlbi Dean dies aged just 32 after 'unexpected sudden illness'

The CW actress Charlbi Dean has died at the age of just 32 after an “unexpected sudden illness”.

The actress’s representatives confirmed the tragic news to TMZ, confirming that she died in a New York City hospital.

Charlbi was best known for her role in The CW’s hit show Black Lightning, as well as starring in films like An Interview With God, Blood in the Water and Triangle of Sadness.

The latter flick, in which she stars alongside Woody Harrelson, recently debuted at Cannes Film Festival, where it scooped the Palme d’Or gong.

The dark comedy flick saw Charlbi take on the lead role as model Yaya, who navigated the industry of high fashion alongside her boyfriend Carl, played by Harris Dickinson.

Along with her acting career, South African-born Charlbi also worked as a model.

Her first ever role came opposite singer Troye Sivan back in 2010, when she starred in the comedy film Spud.

No official cause of death has yet been announced.

She was seen attending the Cannes Film Festival back in May

Tributes have already been pouring in for the star online, with one fan tweeting: “This is so sad. She was utterly brilliant in Triangle of Sadness.”

As another penned: “RIP Charlbi Dean, so young.”

“Charlbi Dean was the most iconic SA model in the Wicked Magazine era. I was so excited when she got cast in Spud because I honestly thought she was the most beautiful person I’d ever seen,” a third followed up, adding: “Triangle of Sadness should have been her big break. Life is incredibly cruel.”

Another fan echoed: “Oh my god. This is so deeply heartbreaking. I’m in total shock.”

Charlbi made one of her last public appearances in May this year, when she was seen attending the Cannes Film Festival alongside the rest of her cast members.
