TV presenter James Whale has confirmed he will stay in hospital after a blood transfusion gone wrong.
The 71-year-old veteran presenter is battling various forms of cancer in his spine, brain and kidneys, and confirmed his diagnosis was terminal in 2020.
Now James has confirmed he will continue to receive medical treatment for the foreseeable as his lungs are “full of blood clots” following the transfusion.

The presenter took to social media this week to say: “Sorry to say guys, a lot of people asking how my blood transfusions went.
“Unfortunately they didn’t do the trick. Apparently I have lungs full of blood clots so they’re keeping me in to clear them out and hopefully it won’t take too long xxx.”
In a snap shared to Twitter, James could be seen wearing an oxygen cannula as he reclined against a leather pillow wearing a cream fleece.
He added to fans: “Not sure if this is the look I should be going for! But you never know I could start a new trend.”
James later hit out at the ongoing nursing strike, adding: “Trying to get as much oxygen into my blood as possible, fantastic nurses, none of which have the time or inclination to go on strike.”
James has a long history with cancer, first diagnosed in 2000 with kidney cancer and given just three months to live.
He surpassed all doctors’ expectations and went on to recover before being diagnosed with kidney, brain and spine cancer two decades later.
His first wife Melinda also sadly died from Stage 4 lung cancer in 2018, with James telling the Daily Mail: “She is not expected to live very long, it may be weeks or months.
“She is having treatment, and I can’t give up that last glimmer of hope. But the doctors say I have to face facts. She is dying. The thought of losing her is so painful, it is difficult to even contemplate.”

Speaking at the British Curry Awards about his diagnosis, James joked with guests: “I know a lot of you won’t like me, but this time next year I won’t be here. I have terminal cancer.
“As you might be able to hear, I am having chemotherapy which makes it harder for me to breathe, but I’m OK. Don’t worry.”
