A Place in the Sun fans livid as buyer complains about 'small' flat despite tight budget

A Place in the Sun’s Jasmin Harman was left raising eyebrows after hearing about her guest’s small budget and high expectations.

Retired prison chaplain Ken brought along a friend to the sunny Larnaca in southern Cyprus with a budget of £80,000 for a three bedroom home.

Planning to spend his retirement years, he was looking for private, outdoor space in a location near shops and the sea.

But property expert Jasmin delivered the harsh truths to the pair and warned that there will be compromises throughout the search.

Ken and his friend Katie stepped inside the flat and said ‘it’s small’

She took them to a complex in the buzzing Oroklini where half of the residents are British and the other half as locals.

The 2-bedroom flat has an open plan living-dining space, as well as a large terrace with great views.

But Ken’s first impression left Jasmin speechless.

He said: “It feels quite small, I expect open plan but it jsut seems a little bit small. The terrace has a good view of other houses, it’s a bit overlooked, isn’t it?”

Jasmin put up an awkward grin and said: “I’m slightly getting worried about managing expectations, really.

“And also, don’t forget, in Cyprus, the weather is so lovely for most of the year that you’re going to be living outside.”

Ken mentioned his current detached property in the UK comes with a private garden and voiced his concerns as he had a look at other features in the flat.

“Is this the main bedroom? This just seems small,” he said.

Jasmin was shocked and reminded her guests to lower their expectations with their tight budget

“This kitchen is a bit compact – where do I put my microwave, my air fryer and my large American fridge? Oh dear!”

Viewers, however, disagreed with Ken and were shocked at his high expectations.

One said: “I think Ken needs to put a 1 in front of his £80k budget.”

Another wrote: “Little bit small… what can anyone expect for such a tiny budget? I’n sorry to say this so early in the programme but it seems a comolete fool’s errand.”

“You want bigger? Up your budget you fool,” a third added and a fourth suggested: “He’s gonna need help from the good lord above to get what he wants.”
