Aliens child star unrecognisable after ditching acting fame to become a teacher

One child star from one of the most successful sci-fi franchises of all time is now unrecognisable after ditching acting fame to become a teacher.

Florida native Carrie Henn shot to fame when she was just 12 years old and cast in James Cameron’s 1986 flick Aliens.

She played youngster Newt, the only survivor of the Hadley’s Hope settlement after a Xenomorph infestation, and soon captured the hearts of the audience until her tragic death before the end of the film.

Newt’s death came when her escape pod crashed and filled with water – with young Carrie scooping a Young Artist Award and a Saturn Award for her role.

What many fans of the franchise won’t know is that Carrie actually starred alongside her brother Christopher in the flick. He played Newt’s older brother Timmy in a scene that’s only available to watch in the Special Edition of the flick.

Though Carrie went on to appear as a voice acting extra in the 2020 cartoon Thunder Island, Carrie has since ditched acting for the most part – and gone on to seek out a career in teaching.

Despite that, Carrie still keeps in touch with her co-star Sigourney Weaver.

Carrie told Tulsa World: “It was a decision that I made. My parents have always been encouraging of me to do what I want.”

She added: “People don’t understand that [acting] wasn’t my passion. It wasn’t my dream. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Was it an amazing experience? Absolutely. Would I do it again? Of course.

“But it wasn’t my passion. Teaching was.”
