Antiques Roadshow guest floored as poster he found in bin is worth ‘incredible’ value

A guest on hit BBC series Antiques Roadshow said it was “incredible” as he was told his poster could be worth over five figures.

The episode, which took place in Newby Hall, saw a segment where a man who worked at the iconic Live Aid concert from Bob Geldof showed off his poster.

The huge piece of material showed the famous image of Live Aid, with a guitar over the continent of Africa with the Live Aid logo.

The man revealed that he stumbled across the poster by accident when he was looking for his clothes, which had been thrown away.

The man revealed he worked on Live Aid during the 80s

He said: “I was feeding the crew, they had been there all week and needed feeding, poor guys.

“I remember during the show going looking for certain items which had been thrown out of my personal laundry, someone threw it out thinking it was rubbish.”

Expert John replied in shock: “So you sent laundry off to be cleaned and someone thought it was junk?”

The Live Aid poster could be worth up to £12,000

The man agreed: “At the refuse area, that was where I found this, I didn’t find my laundry but I did find this, which did make up for it slightly.”

John shared the context behind the poster, as he said he believed it was in the background of Bob Geldof’s famous interview which encouraged people to donate to the cause.

His passionate speech is said to have increased donations to £300 per minute, and hundreds of millions was raised.

John was stunned at the impressive poster

John then made his dreams came true as he said: “If you ever decided to sell it, I would have thought at auction today you would get between £8,000 to £12,000.

“How much was your washing worth?”

The man said: “That’s incredible… about 60p!”

Antiques Roadshow airs next Sunday at 9pm on BBC.
