Charlie Stayt clashed with Conservative MP James Cleverly during the latest instalment of BBC Breakfast.
The presenter, 61, spoke to the politician about a comment that was allegedly made by him. Yvetter Copper claimed that Cleverly privately called the Rwanda plan “bats**t”.
The shadow home secretary told the Commons: “I don’t believe the new Home Secretary ever believed in the Rwanda plan. He distanced himself from it and his predecessor’s language on it. He may even on occasion have privately called it ‘bats**t’.”

During Thursday’s instalment (November 16) of the programme, Charlie repeatedly quizzed Cleverly on whether he used the word “bats**t when describing the Rwanda system. He asked: “OK as you’re aware, some things attract more attention maybe than they deserve.
“But yesterday in the Commons, you were accused of describing the Rwanda system as bats***. Is that true? Did you say those words?”
The politician hesitated before responding: “Well, that was a claim made of me, not something that I said, but the point is…” Charlie interrupted: “So you didn’t say that,” as the Home Secretary attempted to continue. “But the point is…
“The point is, look, it’s good for parliamentary theatre. The point that I said is, and I repeat it, the Rwanda scheme is already having a deterrent effect. After Cleverly finished his response, Charlie repeated his question as he said: “I am happy to give you the time to answer the question I just asked you, did you say that word?”
He hit back: “I certainly don’t remember saying anything anything like that. But then the point is, this is a really important part of our plan, which is already working.”
Fans raced to social media to share their thoughts on the interview, with many picking up on the fact Charlie swore on live TV. One person wrote: “Charlie Stayt wheeling out the word “bats***” uncensored at 7.42am is wild.”
A second added: “Did Charlie just say “Bat s***?” #BBCBreakfast.” Another echoed: “Had to rewind to double-check that Charlie Stayt just said “Bats***” on breakfast TV #BBCBreakfast.”
