BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty cringes at co-star as viewers ask ‘what am I watching?’

Things became fairly awkward during the latest episode of BBC Breakfast after sports presenter Mike Bushell jumped off the famous red sofa.

The 57-year-old sat alongside news anchors Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty on Saturday morning (June 24) to read the latest sporting headlines.

But while discussing famous horse jockey Frankie Dettori and his ability to dismount a horse with a single jump, Mike was quick to tell his co-hosts that he is unable to jump off a chair.

Questioning him further Naga asked: “You can’t jump off a chair?”

Mike replied: “Well not with that sort of finesse and style. I would show you now but we’re gonna talk about Glastonbury – you don’t want to see me dismounting the sofa do you?”

Chiming in on the conversation, Charlie added that maybe the producers could run a poll on whether Mike should do a demonstration.

But despite initially refusing to showcase his jumping skills, Mike quickly got up and launched off the sofa and out of frame.

Encouraging him to do it again because it was “missed on the wider shot,” the sports journalist quickly got up and launched himself off of the sofa a second time.

Mike said: “That was a bit more wobbly that time.

“But I can’t get my head around it, if he can do that at 52, so seamlessly every time he gets off a horse!”

He added: “Don’t retire Frankie, he’s incredible. He’s still so good!”

Confused fans also shared their thoughts on Mike’s epic leap, with one viewer on Twitter writing: “Has someone put drugs in my PG Tips? WTF am I watching.”

Another chimed: “Unexpected side view of Mike Bushell.”

Charlie and Naga looked confused

While a third joked: “Looks like a monkey jumping.”

Mike has worked with the BBC for around 25 years and has become well-known for his unplanned on-air blunders.

In 2018, when interviewing the swimmers at the Commonweath Games he misplaced a step and ended up in the pool.

The infamous clip of Mike falling into the water was shared 11.5million times in one day on social media.
