BBC’s Alex Scott ‘loses cool’ live on TV as co-stars forced to ‘keep her under control’

Alex Scott was forced to apologise live on TV after she lost her cool during the Lionesses’ Women’s World Cup quarter-final.

All eyes were on the iconic Lionesses on Saturday evening (August 12) as they took on Columbia in a bid to secure their place in the Women’s World Cup semi-finals.

And that included popular pundit Alex, 38, who appeared on an episode of Football Focus, that was airing live while the game was on.

During the show, Alex seemed to be totally distracted as she paid close attention to the footy match.

However, things took an awkward turn when Alex lost her cool completely while in the middle of a discussion live on TV.

Alex was left with her jaw on the floor when Lauren Hemp scored last in the first half of the match to equalise for the Lionesses.

But back in the studio, Alex was supposed to be discussing Arsenal’s new signing Declan Rice with her co-stars.

As a result, Alex was forced to issue an apology live on air, confessing: “Sorry I am getting carried away here, England have just equalised and I am listening to you talk about Declan Rice.

“I tell you this is live TV for you, I told you they had to keep me under control, I’ve already lost my cool.”

Co-presenters Dion Dublin and Ashley Williams then chimed in to try and get Alex to focus on the discussion instead of the tense match.

Despite the awkwardness, fans watching the show at home couldn’t help but find the situation amusing.

Taking to X to express their joy at Alex’s antics, one fan wrote: “All eyes on the lionesses!! How can you keep your cool?!”

Someone else said: “I love her,” as a third quipped: “They properly lost control.”

A fourth chimed in and added: “Alex Scott is me at work when I hide to watch the games.”

It seems England’s Women’s World Cup dreams are still alive after the Lionesses battled past a tough past Colombian side to reach the semi-finals.

Sarina Wiegman’s side had to it the hard way – and the Lionesses found themselves one goal down to the South Americans just before half-time. Ahead of England’s clash, in the knockout rounds of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, no team had come from behind to win.

And the Lionesses looked unsteady on their feet when Leicy Santos pulled off a spectacular lob to beat Mary Earps, however, Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo had other ideas as they both found the net either side of half-time.

The Lionesses started off the better of the two teams, and Wiegman’s side had seemingly shaken off the cobwebs of the group stages.

However, Colombia looked dangerous, especially though their star-striker: Mayra Ramírez.

England eventually had to dig deep to hold off Colombia – who had a couple of half chances in the final few minutes.

However, England held firm, and they will now face the hosts Australia for a shot in the World Cup final.
