Singer Linda Lewis has died aged 72.
The British songstress, who found fame in the 70s and whose hits include It’s in His Kiss, and This Time I’ll be Sweet passed away on Wednesday [May 2), her sister has confirmed in a statement.
Taking to Instagram, her sister announced alongside a black and white snap of the singer during her heyday: “It is with the greatest sadness and regret we share the news that our beloved beautiful sister Linda Lewis passed away today peacefully at her home.”

Before adding: “The family asks that you respect our privacy and allow us to grieve at this heartbreaking time [broken heart emoji], followed by” “@lindalewisofficial we will Love you forever [dove emoji].
Any further details of Linda’s cause of death have not yet been revealed.

Soon after the announcement and Linda’s loyal fans penned heartfelt tributes online.
“My heart [love heart emoji] goes out to you all. I’m so so sorry [love heart emoji],” commented one devastated fan.
While another wrote: “So sorry to hear. Fell in love with Linda after hearing her on your podcast. Such a stunning talent and a fabulous human being. Thinking of you all.”

A third penned: “Such sad news, thinking of you all at this very difficult time. May Linda rest peacefully,” as another shared: “RIP her legacy will live on.”
Linda was the eldest of six children, three of whom also had singing careers, including her sisters, Shirley and Dee Lewis.
She is best known for her seventies hit singles which included: Rock-a-Doodle-Doo (1973), Sideway Shuffle (1973) and her version of Betty Everett’s Shoop Shoop Song (It’s in His Kiss).
The British singer also provided backing vocals for a variety of musicians, including David Bowie, Al Kooper, Cat Stevens and Rod Stewart.
In 2007, she toured with the Soul Britannia All Stars in the United Kingdom, and BBC Four featured performances by the singer in a sixty-minute recording of a Barbican show.
In June of the same year, she collaborated with Basement Jaxx on “Close Your Eyes”, which was featured in the Japanese anime film Vexille.
