As Peter Pan and Wendy lands on Disney+, Daily Star has taken a look at some the celebs to have played Captain Hook – and where they are now.
Dustin Hoffman
A generation of viewers were terrified of Dustin Hoffman’s Hook in the 1991 Stephen Spielberg film, where the villain battled a grown-up Peter – played by the late, great Robin Williams.
Away from the limelight, Dustin has been married twice – including to Anne Byrne from 1969 to 1980 – with who he welcomed a daughter called Jenna.
He also adopted Anne’s daughter Karina from a previous marriage.
The actor later married Lisa Gottsegan in 1980, with who he has four children called Jacob, Rebecca, Maxwell and Alexandra.
In 2013, Dustin’s press officer Jodi Gottlieb released a statement to say that the actor had undergone treatment for throat cancer and that he had been “surgically cured”.
“It was detected early and he has been surgically cured,” she said, adding that the actor was “feeling great and in good health.”
Jason Isaacs
Film and TV icon Jason Isaacs has played some of Hollywood’s most famous villains, including Captain Hook in the 2003 Peter Pan film.
However the actor has since claimed that the role nearly “killed his film career,” after it was a blockbuster flop.
Speaking to The Guardian, Jason claimed: “When I was in ‘Peter Pan’ it was going to be gigantic. I was told it would change my life.
“Be careful, they said; make sure you’ve got the right people in place. Then it came out, and it was a catastrophic flop. It killed my film career stone dead for a while.”
He continued: “It was a great lesson. Just have a great time and do the best you can.”
However, he landed global fame after playing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, with the star going on to appear in huge blockbusters and TV series including The OA, Sex Education, Mrs Harris Goes To Paris and Operation Mincemeat.
The actor has spoken openly about his battle with drug addiction too, telling The Big Issue’s Letter To My Younger Self: “I’ve always had an addictive personality and by the age of 16 I’d already passed through drink and was getting started on a decades-long love affair with drugs.”
The star also made a candid admission about his drug addiction battle, as he was asked in another Guardian interview who he would most like to say sorry to.
He replied: “Anybody who met me before I was 30, because I was a drug addict, and all my relationships were experienced through that prism.”
Away from the limelight, he has been married to wife Emma Hewitt since 2001 and they have two children together called Lily and Ruby.
Rhys Ifans
Rhys Ifans put a new spin on Hook when he played the villain in 2011 mini-series Neverland.
Hook had a father-son relationship with Peter Pan, but when it was revealed that Hook was in love with Peter’s mother and had his father killed, Peter cut off Hook’s hand and their lifelong feud began.
After beginning his career on the stage in productions such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Rhys became a familiar face in many film classics including Twin Town, Notting Hill, The 51st State, Kevin and Perry Go Large, The Boat that Rocked and Vanity Fair.
Like fellow Hook star Jason Isaacs, Rhys appeared in the Harry Potter film series as Xenophillius Lovegood – before landing roles in The Amazing Spider-Man and Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.
He most recently reprised his role as Curt Connors in Spider Man: No Way Home, as well as starring in The King’s Man and Game Of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.
Rhys has also had a number of music video cameos for bands including Super Furry Animals.
It is not only fame that Rhys’ career has brought him, but also romance, after the star dated Sienna Miller from 2007 to 2008.
He later dated his Neverland co-star Anna Friel from 2011 to 2014, with Anna revealing to Tatler Magazine that Rhys was “brilliant,” with her daughter Gracie – who she welcomed with ex-partner and actor David Thewlis.
Ian McShane
Lots of fairytale characters appeared in the Shrek film series, including Captain Hook who worked as a henchman for Prince Charming in Shrek The Third.
Acting legend Ian McShane voiced Captain Hook in the film – but he was already a huge star before appearing in the animation.
He became a household name after appearing as antiques dealer Lovejoy in the long running TV series, which ran on the BBC between 1986-1994.
Since Lovejoy, his charismatic charm has also been introduced to new audiences as the star took on Hollywood in films and TV series including Pirates Of The Caribbean, Hellboy, Game of Thrones, American Gods and more recently, the John Wick film series, opposite Keanu Reeves.
It is no surprise then that the actor has an estimated net worth of $10m (£8m) according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Ian is not the only famous star in his family though, as his father Harry McShane played professional football for teams including Manchester United.
The actor opened up about his father’s death from Alzheimer’s in 2012 as he paid tribute to him, saying to The Guardian: “Ah, he was great. We never had a row. Which is why, when he died, even though it wasn’t unexpected, well, it’s still your Dad. It doesn’t matter how old you are. You’ve lost your Dad.”
In his personal life, Ian has two children – with daughter Kate McShane working behind the scenes as a make-up artist for films too.
The actor has also been married three times – first to actress Suzan Farmer between 1965 to 1968 and then to Ruth Post between 1970 to 1975, before marrying wife Gwen Humble in 1980.
Colin O’Donoghue
Fans swooned over Colin O’Donoghue when he took on the role of Captain Hook in hit fantasy series Once Upon A Time.
The character was introduced as a nemesis of Rumpelstiltskin in the second series, but became popular with viewers and became a regular until the show ended in 2017.
Colin had already appeared in Irish soap Fair City, historical drama The Tudors and horror film The Rite before taking on his Once Upon A Time role.
From there Colin has not left our screens, appearing in Trollhunters, Tales of Arcadia and most recently, Luck and The Great North – as well as hitting the stage in productions of Walking the Road and What the Dead Want.
He also played the love interest in Christina Perri’s 2015 music video for The Words.
The actor has a secret talent too, as he played in Irish band The Enemies from 2003 to 2013.
Colin tends to keep his personal life private, but it is known that he has been married to wife Helen O’Donoghue since 2009 and that they have a son together called Evan.
