Coronation Street Jacob star Jack James Ryan heartbroken after family member’s death

Former Coronation Street star Jack James Ryan has paid tribute to a beloved family member following their heartbreaking death.

The actor, 27, who played Jacob Hay in the ITV soap until January this year, took his Instagram stories to share the sad news that his family’s beloved dog Frank had died.

Jack shared a snap of him and Frank together in his living room, with the pooch looking up at the actor as they shared a cuddle together.

“He was the best mate a guy could ask for.”

Jack later shared a sweet snap of Frank alongside his family’s two other dogs, as the actor captioned the post: “The iconic trio.”

The soap star played Jacob on the ITV soap from 2021 to 2023, when his character decided to depart the cobbles after being threatened by his villainous on-screen father Damon.

Speaking to press about the character’s sudden departure, Jack said at the time: “I was coming up to that two-year mark on the show, and the conversations upstairs were about moving into this place, and looking at the long haul of what this character was going to do on the Street – which of course was incredibly humbling.”

He added: “Those conversations were amazing, but I’m still young, and there’s so much stuff that I want to go and do.

“I also felt like I had come and done what I intended to do. We talk about the Corrie bingo cards, like where you tick off things you’ve done… I’ve come in, I’ve played the villain, I’ve had my redemption arc, I got to punch Steve McDonald, I went to prison, I even moved into 1 Coronation Street with Ken Barlow! You can’t get much better than that.

“It just felt right, it felt like the right time to leave the show.”

However Jack has not left our screens, as he is due to appear in six-part ITV thriller Passenger later this year.
