Courteney Cox turned away from gig on BBC show as she begs Claudia Winkleman for role

Presenter Claudia Winkleman received a request from an unlikely wannabe contestant for season two of her new BBC game show, The Traitors.

Former Friends star Courteney Cox appeared in a casting call for the second series of the show, following the success of the debut series, which saw them awarded a BAFTA nomination.

In the clip, Claudia calls for fans to apply while stood next to a cloaked figure who slowly revealed themselves to be the sitcom star and Scream queen.

“Claudia, please can I do it?” pleaded Courteney, but Claudia replied: “I’ve said this to you before, it’s a no,”

She added: “You cannot apply if you’re a celebrity or as famous as this one,”

“Now… off you go,” Claudia told the Hollywood star.

Some fans were gutted to learn that there wouldn’t be a celebrity version of the game show, which see the contestants attempt to find out who the traitors are amongst them in the hopes of winning a cash prize of up to £120,000.

One fan wrote: “I love that they know how much we don’t want celebs involved ever, good move #TheTraitors.”

While a second added: “Never do a celebrity #TheTraitors . The real people on this show are brilliant. I love each and every one of them for being who they are. Fantastic show.”

A third put: “I love #TheTraitors but I hope they never bring in any celebrities/do a celebrity version. The public are always the most entertaining when it comes to real drama.”

Meanwhile other viewers really wanted to see celebrities take on the challenge, and listed some A-Listers that they’d like to see on the show.

“There needs to be a celebrity special of #TheTraitors. Gemma Collins, James Acaster, AJ Odudu, Gordon Ramsey etc,” one tweeted.

A second wrote: “They need to do a celebrity #TheTraitors – these lot are needlessly hysterical, so imagine the levels of drama with egos in the room.”
