But Denise defended her son, saying: “We have all had our issues but he’s come through that. He is in a really good place.
“I am so proud of him. He is my big boy, well in fact they all feel like my boys because they started out in the garage in my house.
“I have been a part of their journey since they were 13 years old.”
Denise, who met Taylor at the band’s London 02 gig in January, added: “He may be a big star now, but I am still his mum. I love it when he comes home. I don’t do his washing when he’s home though. To be honest I’m not sure I ever did do his washing.
“But on a serious note all I care about is he is happy and he stays in contact with his mum.”
Matt is the frontman of hit group 1975, who have had five consecutive UK number one albums.
The four-time BRIT winners have been on their At Their Very Best World Tour since November last year.
