Django Unchained star dies aged just 53 as Jamie Foxx pays emotional tribute

Django Unchained star Keith Jefferson has died aged just 53 after battling cancer, his co-star Jamie Foxx has confirmed.

Jamie shared a snap of the pair together with the caption: “Everything hurts right now.” He went on to write: “Having a hard time looking through these pictures reliving the memories of us having a great time going to miss you man gonna miss you… ever since we met back in college, you have been in incredible soul.

“God rest, NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO SEE THE WORDS ABOUT MY FRIEND RIP @keith.jefferson Keith,” Jamie concluded.

Fans rushed to the comments section to show Keith and Jamie some love, with Nicole Scherzinger adding a string of prayer emojis. Someone else wrote: “Keith had a way of lighting up a room and making everybody feel comfortable like family. Praying for his family and friends. I will miss him dearly.”

Another social media user said: “I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending my condolences.” As a third echoed: “My heart is breaking…. For him, for you, and for all who loved him. He left his mark on this world friend. We will see him again. Love you always.”

Jamie went on to write: “This one hurts. Keith, you’ve been nothing but absolute grace, your whole life your heart is pure your love is immeasurable you were an amazing soul. We will all miss you dearly. It’s gonna take a long time for this to heal. Goodbye, my friend. I love you.”

Along with his role in Django Unchained alongside Foxx, Keith also starred in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Hateful Eight. He was forced to put his career on hold while battling cancer this year.

Keith shared an emotional post to update his fans on his journey, penning on Instagram: “Every now and then God will give you a challenge and leave it up to you to fix it. When I was first diagnosed with cancer I had to stop, pause, and didn’t want to share with anyone. Not my family nor extended family.

“Today I’m finally at a place to share because my faith is getting stronger. I have a loving family and the best friends in the entire world.

“You know who you are. From my Mom to J Foxx and everybody in between. I love you wholeheartedly. We are cut from the same cloth and that cloth is the human condition. Remember… ‘faith is the last thing you can lose.’ I’m not about to lose that.”

Keith’s final posthumous project alongside Foxx, The Burial, will hit cinemas on Friday, October 6th before being released on Prime Video next week.
