An exciting addition to this year’s event is the introduction of a new award category, Show of the Summer, which will be entirely decided by the fans.

The VMAs will also honor Latin sensation Shakira with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, while hip-hop legend Diddy will receive the coveted Global Icon Award.

One remarkable feature of this year’s Artist of the Year category is that it’s exclusively populated by female artists for the very first time.
