A man who appeared on TV show First Dates has been jailed for his part in a heroin ring.

Joseph Shaw – who appeared on the Channel 4 dating show six years ago – was sentenced to six and a half years in prison, according to a press release from West Yorkshire Police.

It came after police raided a property on Silkstone Road, Bradford, in 2021, where they seized 31kg of heroin and £100,000 in cash.

His younger brother Daniel Shaw, 24, was jailed for 10 years and six months.

A third man, Mohammed Bashir, 42, changed his plea to guilty halfway through his trial and will be sentenced at a later date for possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possession of criminal property.

Joseph was one of the people looking for love on First Dates back in 2017 and was he matched with a woman named Jodie.

The pair had dinner together but in an odd twist it turned out that they had already met.

They had bumped into each other on the train as they travelled to film the programme, and had got to know each other a bit.

He snuck off to call his friend during their date, telling him Jodie was acting like it hadn’t happened.

“I’m on a date with her, she’s proper like pretending she don’t know me,” he told his pal.

“How funny is that? She’s like, ‘Oh yeah, we kind of know each other.’

“’I don’t kind of know you, I spent all night with you last night’.”

Head of Bradford District CID, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Farrell said of the sentencing: “This is a fantastic result for Bradford District, not only have we removed a significant amount of drugs off the streets but we have put behind bars two men fuelling those streets with drugs.

“We regularly see the harm that Class A drugs cause both to the individual users and to our communities where they fuel crime and anti-social behaviour that impacts on ordinary people’s lives.”
