Freddie Flintoff 'considering quitting Top Gear' as horror crash leaves him traumatised

Freddie Flintoff has revealed that he may never return to Top Gear after his horror smash left him traumatised.

The England cricket hero, 45, is considering quitting the show after suffering a broken rib in an accident at the show’s test site last month, it was claimed.

One pal said: “He was making a good recovery physically following the crash but the psychological impact was less clear.”

It is said Freddie has been left “psychologically traumatised” after the stunt at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey last month.

Freddie’s son Corey, 16, said after the crash: “He’s OK. I’m not too sure what happened but he is lucky to be alive.”

The Health and Safety Executive investigated the accident and signed it off as safe.

Last month Freddie had to be airlifted to hospital after his accident, that saw him behind the wheel when medics at the venue rushed to his aid.

When the horror smash took place on December 13, Freddie was at the Top Gear test track alongside co-hosts Chris Harris and Take Me Out presenter Paddy McGuinness when the accident took place.

At the time, a source explained that Freddie wasn’t driving at a high speed and that the accident could have “happened to anyone”.

Soon after his crash he told the Daily Star Sunday: “I find myself in these positions where I’m strapped in and I think, ‘How on earth have I got involved in something like this?’

Adding: “I’m not sure I can do it at the time – but I really enjoy that. My mindset is, ‘I’m here, I’m doing it, it’s going to happen… I’ll see what happens’.”
