George Michael super fan tears apart star's £19m mansion causing 'misery' to locals

George Michael’s home, worth £19 million, was purchased by a super fan and construction has recently begun on the property.

Stephen Cameron bought the singer’s former home, which is a Grade II listing building in highgate, and was granted permission by Camden Council to make a “super basement” under the garden.

His plans mean there will be a living accommodation and a second kitchen added to the house, but some are against the idea.

Cameron’s plans have not been well received by locals who have become increasingly upset by the drilling and noises coming from the renovation project.

The interference has been called a “misery” and reportedly lasts for up to 10 hours a day as workmen and diggers frequent the property.

The beautiful property is undergoing renovations

Stephen’s plans do not stop there – the self confessed “super fan,” who has an estimated fortune of £171 million, is also allowed to extend the current building.

He is planning to add a pergola and relocate the swimming pool, which former neighbour Kate Moss has previously admitted she used to use with her daughter.

This is not the first time that the iconic property has been placed under renovation by Stephen, who is regularly featured on The Sunday Times’ rich list.

George sadly died on Christmas Day 2016

Back in July 2022, he changed rooms in the house after adding a new bedroom, moving the kitchen, adding a new chimney stack and stairs.

Although his makeover has been backed by Camden Council, the keen renovator has come under fire from The Highgate Society, along with the Highgate Conservation Area Advisory Committee, who have raised issues.

Certain problems regarding structural damage have been raised and according to The Sun, a letter of complaint was sent.

Tributes were left outside his house after he died

It read: “Given that the owners of some properties in The Grove believe that problems have arisen as a result of the basement works at Witanhurst, we would urge the Council to instruct an independent audit of the proposals.”

Cameron spoke to the Daily Mail back in 2020 after he bought the house and said: “It’s a beautiful property, stunning, and I’m looking forward to living there. I’m also a huge George Michael fan, so that makes it even better.”
