Gwyneth Paltrow comes clean on why she stopped flogging infamous £58 vagina candle

Gwyneth Paltrow says she stopped selling her infamous vagina candle because people took it too literally.

The Goop founder confirmed she no longer stocks the controversial gift even though it was a “strong punk rock kind of f**ck you.”

She said it was actually supposed to smell like roses, but people misunderstood and thought it actually smelled like a woman’s private parts.

Gwyneth, 50, took to her Instagram account to answer questions from followers and was asked what the thought process behind the “infamous candle” was

“This is a great question,” she admitted.

And she went on: “The thought process behind the infamous candle essentially was that it was a really strong feminist statement.

“So many women of my generation have been raised to think there’s something wrong with themselves or that the vagina is weird and gross and something to be ashamed of, so the candle is supposed to be a very strong punk rock kind of f**k you to anyone who ever made us feel like that.”

She then explained: “It was not supposed to actually smell like anyone’s vagina, it smelt like roses and that was the point, but unfortunately people tried to make it about something else, which is kind of a shame as it was meant to be this strong feminist statement but we no longer make the candle.”

The actress made the £58 candle – called This Smells Like My Vagina – in 2020 in conjunction with the scent brand Heretic and it immediately sold out.

Goop described the scent on its website as including “geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar,” which is “juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed”.

Although fans can no longer grab the vagina candle, they can get a bunch of others, starting at £30.
