‘I was Neighbours star but now I’ve quit acting and live in tiny shipping container’

Emma Harrison has traded her on-screen Neighbours for an isolated paradise after converting two shipping containers into a tiny home.

The 49-year-old actress is known for playing Joanna Hartman, sister of conniving persona Annalise Hartman (Kimberley Davies) on Aussie soap opera.

The 90s actress recently appeared on Australia’s The Morning Show on Channel 7, sharing news of her simple abode.

During the show, the Gold coast star gushed over her sustainable dwelling, enthusing: “I have two shipping containers.

“They are 2.4 meters in width, six meters in length and 2.6 meters high, so they’re high cube shipping containers, they’re pretty spacious.

“They’re separated by a balcony, which is in the middle, so the whole space is about 50 meters square. It’s really fun.”

Emma quipped that one of the best parts about her compact property is the minimal vacuuming time, as well as her proximity to nature.

She continued, “Well, there’s a lot of focus on sustainability these days, and I feel like, you know, everybody’s got to do their bit because our little bit is part of a much larger bit.

“You know, sort of being more minimalistic and not over-consuming was a conscious choice.

“So it makes us feel so happy that yeah we’re just decreasing our footprint on the planet.”

The Australian ex-model spoke of further benefits, claiming her last electricity bill was only $160.

But tiny home living may not be for everyone, as Emma revealed she previously donated the majority of her wardrobe to charity, and acknowledges the space is small.

Emma first starred in Neighbours in 1995, marking a successful three years on the show before her character was killed off in 1997.

She later worked as a model, and starred in a handful of TV roles, but has recently confessed that the limelight was not for her.

Emma explained she is now happy to focus on her family, saying “Those were really fun, exciting days… but at this stage in my life, family and being a mum are more important to me.

““I did have a fun time overseas and I don’t have any regrets by any means, but everything happens for a reason and that reason ended.”

Emma is not the only Neighbours star to have traded a luxury home for practicality.

Mark Little, Joe Mangel in the Australian soap, was recently spotted at a Welsh cricket club – his first public sighting since going off-grid to become a farmer.

The former Big Breakfast host looks drastically different from his on-screen character, having been “way out of the loop” since his career-change in 2020.
