‘I was Page 3 model and now I’m diving into the minds of fans as a dreams guide’

She was the pin-up of many teenage dreams.

And now glamour girl turned psychotherapist Melinda Messenger wants to really dive into the minds of fans and strangers alike as a dreams guide.

The mum-of-three has just completed a master’s degree on the topic to make sure she knows her stuff. She says: “I’m training to be a dream guide. I’m developing it and I’ll be working with people to understand their dreams.

“Dreams are so powerful… they can tell you so much about yourself. They can tell you things you weren’t aware of and things you might be struggling with. They can be a medicine and a diagnostic tool. Helping people understand their dreams can help them understand themselves better. It also helps them navigate through life and heal certain things. It’s exceptionally powerful.”

The former model started practising as a psychotherapist in 2015. She retrained for life out of the spotlight as the pull of her spiritual side guided her on a new career path. The 52-year-old uses a string of wellness techniques to help her cope during difficult times, including carrying crystals.

She says: “I have strong spirituality. Crystals are little anchor points for energy. They help me deal with everything. I’m a highly sensitive person. I’m very empathic and open and sense a lot. I’ve had to learn through my life how to manage that. If I feel like I need them, I carry them with me. It’s a reminder to be present and stay in myself rather than go into my head and start worrying or totally disconnect and fly off.”

Despite helping clients Melinda is still pushing her own boundaries and she will be seen competing on the new series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins next week.

She says: “I signed up for the show because I love adventure and challenge. I love pushing myself and doing things that I think I’ll be utterly hopeless at. I knew it would be almost impossible for me but I liked the idea of having a go and seeing what happened. I’ve also recorded a charity single that will be released soon and I’m doing panto this Christmas, which I’m really looking forward to. I like doing different things.”

Melinda is joined on SAS by Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton, Olympian Perri Shakes-Drayton and Hollyoaks actress Kirsty-Leigh Porter, who have become pals.

She admits: “I bonded with the others. We were all in an intense situation together and wanted to support each other. When you’re all under stress, you get to see the real person.”

Swindon-born Melinda has now been in showbiz for more than 25 years. After finding fame as a model in the 90s, she went on to become a TV presenter on shows including Cowboy Builders, Fort Boyard and Live From Studio Five. No one is more surprised that she has had so much success than Melinda herself.

“To be honest, I had no idea what I was doing as a TV presenter,” she admits. “I didn’t think too much about it, just thought, ‘let’s have a go’. That’s generally my philosophy for most things. I try to take life lightly and enjoy it and see it as an adventure to have fun with and learn and grow. I have had plenty of heartbreak challenges, despair and struggle, but that makes me want to enjoy life even more.”

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins starts on Tuesday (September 26) at 9.30pm on Channel 4
