One iconic supermodel looked totally unrecognisable in a black-and-white throwback snap taken when she was just 16 years old. Shown with long brunette hair tucked behind her ear, the star in question – who is now 50 – opted to go without make-up for the snap as she peered into the camera.
Guessed who it is yet? It’s America’s Got Talent judge Heidi Klum! Seen before her honey blonde highlights, Heidi could be seen with blotches on her lower lip and finely shaped eyebrows – looking rather similar to her own teen daughter Leni.
Heidi shared the close-up snap to Instagram with the caption: “16 year old me.” Later, she reflected some more on her early modelling days, sharing a colour polaroid in a blue and orange swimsuit.

The one-piece featured a stained glass design and stretched up into thick straps over each shoulder, leaving Heidi’s legs bare as she arranged her brown tresses in a sleek style over one shoulder. She upped the ante when it came to her glam make-up look – opting for cat-eye winged eyeliner and a deep burgundy lip as she posed with both arms behind her head.
In another snap, the young Heidi straddled a wooden chair backwards, before changing into a bodysuit covered in playing card spades, clubs and diamonds. Last came a cut-out black one-piece, featuring stripes of fabric slashed up both her sides.
Writing in German for her caption, Heidi penned: “Similarly to how I look at photos and videos of models for [Germany’s Next Top Model], these photos were my application photos for my 1992 modelling competition. My mom brought me a box of lots of old pictures from the basement.”
Now Heidi’s daughter Leni is following in her famous mother’s footsteps and pursuing a modelling career of her own – even wearing matching lingerie with her mum for Intimissimi.
The pair faced backlash for the “weird” advertising campaign, but Leni insisted the pair “had fun” together. She told Page Six: “I am overall happy with the campaign and I had an amazing day with my mom.” Heidi, meanwhile, said: “It’s been fun to shoot together. To do photoshoots together with her and just to see how she’s just very comfortable and also comfortable around me even when we’re doing underwear shoots or something like that.”

She always knew she would become a model, explaining to Vogue Germany in 2021: “It was only a matter of time before I would try to become a model myself. The first offer came when I was only 12 or 13 from a brand I liked to wear: Brandy Melville. At that time I begged my mother, but no chance. Now I understand that it would have been too early.”
