I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Nella Rose shot to fame as a YouTuber but beneath her happy and confident exterior she is hiding deep sadness.
The online sensation has just purchased a stylish new home after finding huge success on various social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, where she boast hundreds of thousands of followers on each platform.
It was only six years ago that Nella’s life took a complete u-turn as she found fame initially on YouTube with her popularity expanding with subscribers over what would seem a short period of time. But actually her life before stardom and away from the cameras was really quite different to the life she leads now, with the budding young entrepreneur finding herself living out of a suitcase while she was studying at University.
Back in March this year, the 26-year-old gave fans brief insight to her suffering, sharing a video with her TikTok followers that included the caption: “When you’re an immigrant, have been homeless, lost both parents, family have disowned you, constantly body shamed but God continues to bless you.”
Before starting out on the internet showcasing fashion and hair tutorials, Nella arrived in the UK at the age of 7, along with her mother and older brother – with the family originally from the Congolese coming to Britain from their home in Belgium.
Nella grew up in a poverty stricken council home in North London with her one sibling and mother, where she would watch Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly on the TV in hope of mastering her British accent to fit in.
In 2017, the YouTuber and her brother suffered an all time low when their mother passed away suddenly, not much is known about her cause of death other than that she died in Nella’s arms.
Later that same year and while Nella was studying at University, she and her brother had another catastrophic blow when they found themselves homeless and fending for themselves after the council took back their home following their mum’s tragic death.
The online star has been open with subscribers in the past about her life prior to YouTube. Speaking of her mum Nella explained: “She died in my arms. It is the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my life.”
“I was planning on using my student loan and my little YouTube money to pay the rent and bills. But then my brother and I get a letter telling us we had 30 days to move out. So I’m in my second year of uni, I’m dealing with my mum’s death and now we’re homeless,” added the I’m A Celeb contestant.
She went on to explain in the same segment: “My uni room was my house or I was going on brand trips abroad in the holidays because I was running away from the fact I had nothing to call my own, nothing solid, I was escaping my problems.
“You all thought I was living my best life, but in reality, I was homeless, living out of a suitcase and hopping from bed to bed.”
Having landed herself a spot down under on ITV’s hotly anticipated programme can only mean bigger and better things ahead for Nella as she continues to thrive despite her harrowing and heartbreaking start in life.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! starts at 9pm, ITV1, Sunday November 19.
