ITV Dancing on Ice’s Torvill and Dean join Emmerdale cast in huge career move

Dancing On Ice stars Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are set to skate into Emmerdale this Christmas as part of a wedding proposal.

The ice dance champions will appear in an episode of the ITV soap over the festive season, which Jayne confessed would be “surreal”. There are few details on what the stars will be getting up to in the Dales, but they have already shot their part at a location in Leeds.

And it is known that the episode will see the pair – who found fame when they won gold at the Olympics in 1984 – reunite on the ice to help a well-loved Emmerdale character with a festive marriage proposal. Christopher, 65, said it was “amazing” being there and that he was having a blast.

“We have jumped from watching Emmerdale on TV to being in a scene,” he said. “From the screen to the scene.” “I’m loving it,” he went on.

Jayne, 66, said that she was looking forward to switching on the television and seeing them in the soap. “I can’t wait to watch the episode that we are going to be in,” said the star. “It will be surreal sitting at home watching it.”

Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw added: “We are delighted to welcome Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean as our very special guests to Emmerdale. Torvill and Dean certainly promise to bring the Christmas magic sparkle to the show.”

After their ice-skating success, Christopher and Jayne became stars to a new generation thanks to being on Dancing On Ice. They have been on the contest for several years, taking over head judging duties for the last few.

The new series will see the likes of boxer Ricky Hatton and actress Claire Sweeney strapping on their skates for the competition.

It isn’t known who will present the programme. Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby used to present, but both have now left their other big show, This Morning.

Phillip left in May after admitting to having an affair with a younger colleague, which he described as “unwise but not illegal”. And Holly stepped down in October after a man was charged in relation to an alleged plot to kidnap and murder her.*
