ITV’s This Morning ‘confirm’ stand-in presenters after Phillip Schofield’s exit

ITV have reportedly confirmed the presenters stepping in to host This Morning after it was announced Phillip Schofield was leaving the show.

It comes after long-time host Phillip announced on Saturday (May 20) that he was stepping down from the job after 21 years with “immediate effect”.

Phil’s exit came amid reports of a growing rift between him and co-star Holly Willoughby, who reportedly won’t be hosting the show on Monday (May 22) due to previously planned time off.

ITV had already revealed that members of the “This Morning family” would be hosting the show over the next few weeks, an emergency shakeup.

But it has now been reported that Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary will fill in for Phil and Holly and appear on our screens on Monday.

According to The Sun, popular duo Alison and Dermot, who normally host the show on Fridays, will take the reigns next week.

In their initial statement about Phil’s exit, ITV confirmed that the star will continue to host “peak time” shows for the broadcaster and that Holly would remain on the show.

“Having co-hosted the multi-award winning show for two decades, Phillip will continue to present peak time shows for ITV including next month’s The British Soap Awards and a new prime time series.

“Holly Willoughby will remain on This Morning and will co-present with members of the This Morning family.”

In his own statement, Phil said: “I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

“So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”

Holly also admitted that the show wouldn’t be the same without Phil in a statement of her own, where she wrote: “It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him.”
