Joey Essex admits he's an 'ice-skating demon' ahead of Dancing On Ice stint

Joey Essex has previously bragged that he was an “ice-skating demon” despite insisting that he was a “novice” ice skater.

The 32-year-old TOWIE alum is set to appear on the new series of Dancing On Ice – along with EastEnders icon Patsy Palmer and Love Island winner Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu.

Joey, who is no stranger to a reality TV show, claimed he “couldn’t wait to learn a new skill” when the new series kicks off this Sunday.

But it seems Joey, who is paired with professional Vanessa Bauer, 26, is actually already a whizz on the ice rink.

Earlier this week, extracts from his 2014 autobiography Being Reem came to light.

He gushed: “If you went to Romford ice rink on a Saturday afternoon you’d see me, little Joey Essex, whizzing about like some icy ninja. I can still ice-skate now – I’m one of those blokes who gets on the ice and starts skimming about backwards doing fancy shapes (to impress the ladies).

Ironically, he even said: ‘Imagine if I’d gone on Dancing on Ice. I reckon I could easily pull off that Lycra.”

The reports come after Joey gushed that he was “most looking forward” to learning a new skill in an interview ahead of the show this Sunday.

He explained: “Learning a new skill properly because with ice skating, from what I know, once you’ve learned it, you remember it.

“I just want to get into it and start working. I’ve got a proper long job ahead of me,” Joey added.

“I’m excited because I love working and being busy.”

Earlier this week Joey shared his gruesome injury with fans ahead of his skating debut.

The 32-year-old took some time away from training on the rink and entered the boxing ring with coach Tony Sims.

Giving fans a glimpse of his sparring session on Instagram, Joey showcased his impressive skills to his 1.8million followers.

But later on, the TV personality jumped back onto his Instagram story to show off an injury on his finger.

Zooming into the wound, Joey uploaded another snap of his bruise and captioned the pic: “Lucky.”
