Kate and Rio Ferdinand open up on family struggles and ask 'is it worth it?'

Kate and Rio Ferdinand opened up about their “secret” marriage struggles.

The pair, who got married in 2019, spoke about their relationship on their podcast Blended. The former TOWIE star is currently pregnant with their second child, a girl, after giving birth to their son Cree in 2020.

She’s also stepmum to Rio’s children Lorenz, 16, Tate, 14, and Tia, 11 from his late wife Rebecca Ellison who sadly passed after suffering from cancer.

The couple shared how adapting to their new blended family hasn’t always been easy.

Rio said: “I was thinking about how at the beginning it was difficult but now I’m just visualising loads of different scenarios where I might come in and you’re doing Tia’s hair,”

“Or she’s not well and she’s cuddling up to you or Tate, cuddling you and making you laugh and you’ve got quite a funny sense of humour, similar together.

“Or Lorenz, opening up and talking about things, where he wasn’t like that before. When you look at like that, a lot of yards have been had and have been done over this time. It’s been good.”

Kate then added: “Sometimes I just sit back, even with Cree here now and you watch them all play and us all laughing and being happy and you just think, ‘Wow can’t believe we are here’.

“Because you used to pray for days like this and think, are they ever going to come? Is all this worth it? Sometimes we would get in bed and say, ‘Is this worth it? Do we give up?’”

Rio jumped in: “Are we going to last?”

But Kate replied: “We didn’t give up, that’s the one thing we didn’t do is give up.”

Rio agreed, adding: “I think if you genuinely, if there’s love there, that overrides it, it’s like those old songs, innit?

“Love does change you though, I was different person before, I can’t go too deep.”
