Michael Jackson ‘busted’ by pals for faking his iconic high pitched voice

Michael Jackson used to put on his famous high-pitched voice as part of his performing persona.

Those who knew the King of Pop have actually said that the musician had a much deeper voice than the one he used in interviews.

Michael had a particular image and was known for many things – his trilby hat, his famous bedazzled glove, his long curly hair and of course, his iconic voice.

Samm Brown III, Jackson’s musical director, spoke to VH1 in 2005 and revealed some interesting intel about the hitmaker.

He said: “I hope he doesn’t get angry at me for telling you this, but that’s his public persona. I remember a time I called him up and he answered the phone and I didn’t know I was talking to him, because he was talking in his normal voice, which is pretty deep.”

Michael’s friends Liza Minnelli and David Guest also discussed his unusual tone during their joint appearance on Larry King Live.

David said: “I think people don’t know the real him. He doesn’t talk like [that].”

Liza admitted that she always thought Michael’s high-pitched voice was real and shared a hilarious anecdote.

Minnelli was also shocked when she picked up the house phone one night and heard Michael and her now late partner David in a discussion.

The actress couldn’t hold in her amazement and quipped: “I said: ‘Michael, you’re busted. I got you now. All these years you’ve been talking in that voice!’”

When asked, the former showbiz couple agreed that they thought Jackson created the persona to protect himself from the outside world.

Liza theorised: “‘This is who you think I am and I can be me within these walls but you can’t come in.’ He’s been hurt too much, Larry. I mean, they have said kind of rotten things about him. The person that we know is a rather regular guy, believe it or not.”

Oprah Winfrey interviewed Michael’s former wife Lisa Marie Presley back in 2005 and the talk show host noted that when she met the Thriller singer, he spoke in a “normal voice”.

Presley nodded to agree and spoke about Michael’s personality, which was notably different to his persona in front of the cameras.
