A family member wrote: “Larry has fought the good fight. He has overcome some of the biggest challenges he has ever had to face. Rest well Junior, you will be missed.”
In an additional post, Larry’s family said: “His struggle with weight gain/loss never dimmed his drive to show love and kindness to all he met.
Larry became a reality star after signing up for season 10 of My 600lb Life and featured in episode 13 of the series which was called Larry’s Journey.
When he appeared on the show he weighed 940lbs and was bed bound – and he stood out from his fellow co-stars as he had already gone weight loss surgery before.
After his procedure he gained another 400lbs and wanted help to lose the weight after struggling with binge-eating habits.
He said at the time: “The relationship that I have with food, I know that it’s not normal. I eat to comfort myself. When I’m cooking, it’s the only time I’m happy, besides when I’m eating.”
Larry explained he loved to sing gospel and wanted a second chance to overhaul his life and become a gospel singer.
At the time, Larry was unable to lose enough weight to be approved for surgery but he was given another chance to slim down and meet his goal.
He then documented his progress on social media and his fans were constantly supportive.
Larry shared photos of his progress which saw him slim down from his time on the show, while also telling his fans that he was releasing a book titled The Weight of Grief: One Man’s Journey to Overcome Addiction & Find hope.
His battle with food addiction was shared in depth on his YouTube channel TheButtermilkBiscuitShow and on his TikTok mr.buttermilk5.
