One revealed on film site IMBd: “When Strauss sees Oppenheimer to his car, the boom mic and operator are briefly visible in the reflection of the car window.

Oppenheimer fans spotted a historical error on a flag in the background

Another said: “When Groves and Oppenheimer were walking through Los Alamos as it was being built, black stripes can be shown on the side of the stack of plywood. This is a modern pricing technique in big box stores.”

A third said: “When the blinds are opened during the final minutes of Oppenheimer’s security clearance hearing, the cars outside the window are modern and a Chevrolet logo is clearly visible.”

Another pointed out how a newspaper announcing Hitler’s invasion of Poland had the miss-spelling Steptember.

The wartime film is one of the biggest of the summer

While a history buff with way too much time on their hands told website Movie Mistakes: “After the successful Trinity test in 1945, people in a crowd are holding small US flags with 50 stars on them.

“At the time there were only 48 states and the flag had 48 stars in even rows. The 50 star flag didn’t exist until Alaska and Hawaii were added in 1959.”

Fans have spotted a number of mistakes in the film

Fans also noticed the error, as one said: “”It was good and all, but I’ll be that guy and complain they used 50-star flags in a scene set in 1945.”

Another added: “Yea so Oppenheimer is unarguably one of the best films I’ve ever seen. The only flaw is that they showed American flags with 50 stars on it when the US only had 48 states in 1945. That’s it. The rest of it is perfect.”
